Defra's consultation will close on 8 June

Defra is seeking the public’s views on fair and effective litter fines.

In the Litter Strategy for England, published in 2017, Defra committed to publishing improved guidance to promote "proportionate and responsible enforcement.”

The news comes shortly after Defra announced it will double litter fines, from £80-£150.

Environment minister Thérèse Coffey said: “Littering is a scourge on our environment and we waste taxpayers’ money cleaning it up – funds which could be better spent in the community."

The consultation will close on 8 June, 2018. Click here for more information.
