The T590 was chosen for its low ground pressure and stability

A new Bobcat T590 compact track loader has been purchased by Blackpool Zoo to build a new home for its elephants.

As part of ongoing development of the zoo, Project Elephant, will see the overall footprint of the zoo increase by three acres.

It is the largest single investment it has made.

Supplied by Wigan-based Norwest Plant, the low ground pressure and stability of the tracked undercarriage allowed the T590 to work on the deep fine sand in the elephant enclosure.

Finding the right machine for the job had proved to be a tricky problem for the Zoo’s Head Keeper, Luke Minns.

He said: "It had to be a tracked machine due to the sand floors in the elephant house which need to be groomed every day.

"The build quality, size of the machine and the versatility proved that the T590 was a winning combination for the zoo’s requirements.”
