PVC traders EcoVyn has announced a 94% reduction in its plastic waste after installing Bunting Magnetic’s drawer magnets.

PVC compounders EcoVyn produce reprocessed, blended and virgin compounds for a variety of applications including pipes, shoe soles and picture frames.

Currently the Welsh-based company processes 1000 tonnes of reclaimed plastic waste per year, with plans to increase to 16,000 tonnes.

Although metal detectors were already installed within the process, the waste often became contaminated with metal, with over 60 tonnes of waste rejected due to contamination.

After a review of its process, EcoVyn installed Bunting Drawer Filter Magnets between the screw conveyor and the metal detector to remove ferrous metals from the plastic.

The filters have two rows of high strength rare earth neodymium magnets, with the magnets on the bottom row aligned to sit below the gap in the top to capture as much material as possible.

The amount of waste was then reduced from 60 tonnes to 4 tonnes, with ferrous metal found captured ranging from dust to steel sheet shared and electrical capacitors.
