Invitation to tender
Surface removal of treated wood waste
Currently up to five million tonnes per year of waste wood is believed to arise from the construction sector in the UK.
A significant fraction of this material is contaminated due to a surface treatment. This work will investigate the
potential to remove the contaminated surface of the wood in order to produce a higher value, less contaminated material.
The work will include an assessment of surface treatments currently use to treat wood. The research will investigate
the penetration levels resulting from these treatments and comment on the viability to recover a proportion of this
wood for higher value uses. The work will study current and potential techniques for treating the surface of the
wood and assess their viability, practicality and cost effectiveness.
WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) is looking for organisations or teams of experts who can deliver this
research analysis and demonstration project.
