Biffa has signed a two-year fuel quality testing contract with SOCOTEC.

The contract will monitor refuse-derived fuel (RDF) qualities including moisture content, ash content and calorific value.

Biffa exports 500,000 tonnes of RDF every year and supplies Energy from Waste (EFW) facilities in the UK.

It is one of the UK’s largest RDF producers.

Jim Clay, SOCOTEC energy services operations director, said: “To be working alongside one of the leading and largest waste management companies is a great opportunity for us to showcase our fuel testing capabilities and offer a broad portfolio of energy testing and consultancy services to achieve the end goal of developing low carbon energy supply.”

As members of the RDF Industry Group, SOCOTEC helped launch the RDF Code of Practice, released in October 2017.
