Special Waste Recycling and New Star Environmental have announced they are merging to become SWRNewstar.

A statement said the merger comes at a time of increasing recycling and environmental initiatives, with businesses looking to get more from their waste.

SWRNewstar predicts the merger will make it one of the largest waste brokers in the UK with an annual turnover of £41 million.

Scottish entrepreneur Angus MacDonald will become the merged company’s chairman.

Keith Brown, chariman of Newstar, said: “The joining of two of the largest brokers in the UK waste market gives us unrivalled expertise in the property management, grocery, retail, leisure and automotive sectors of the market.”

Both companies will remain in their existing offices in the Buckinghamshire and Hampshire areas.
