Biffa has announced a new three-year waste management contract with Mitchells & Butlers, one of the UK’s largest operators of restaurants, pubs, and bars.

The contract, which was signed in October 2019, will see Biffa support the hospitality giant’s recycling programmes.

It covers Mitchells & Butlers’ entire estate of over 1,600 restaurants, pubs, and bars, which produce food, glass, cardboard, and general recycling.

The contract follows on the heels of a successful partnership between the two companies, which has seen Mitchells & Butlers increase its recycling rate to 59%.

The new contract will support various initiatives, including national roadshows to promote best recycling practices within teams, educational materials to aid employees’ understanding of recycling, and site audits to boost recycling efforts.

Richard Coe, head of procurement at Mitchells & Butlers, said: “The new contract we have formed with Biffa continues a long-standing business partnership, giving further attention to improving our recycling performance.

“Biffa will play an important part in helping us achieve our target of increasing our recycling rate to 80% over the next five years.

“Through working in partnership with Biffa as an organisation, we are ensuring our businesses are set up to manage waste effectively, ensuring that colleagues understand the role waste management has in furthering our sustainability goals.”
